The United Nations World Food Programme is looking for the services of a Logistics Assistant/COMPAS with competencies listed below:

Title: Logistics Assistant/COMPAS/TRANSPORT

Accountabilities: Under the general supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and the technical supervision of the National Logistics/COMPAS Officer based in Yaoundé, the Logistics Assistant/COMPAS will be responsible for the following duties:

General description

In accordance with WFP policies, procedures and guidelines, the incumbent will enter commodity transport, storage, management, processing and other logistical data in COMPAS and produce a variety of reports as requested.

Key tasks and responsibilities

In particular, the incumbent will be perform the following duties:

  • Prepare dispatch scheduled and monitor dispatches as per loading orders
  • Co-ordinate and monitor offloading of wagons and loading on trucks and ensure warehouse operators provide adequate labour and other storage equipment and report on any shortcoming to your supervisor for corrective actions.
  • Fill in properly the waybills with respect to LTIs
  • Maintain and keep accurate report on WFP food stocks in the FA warehouses and prepare daily reports.
  • Check and ensure that weighing equipment are in good working condition
  • Maintain efficient recording system by LTI quantity dispatches and allocated per destinations and balances
  • Maintain convenient working relations with cargo handling agencies, customs, authorities and railway authorities in order to ensure maximum cooperation for safe and easy mouvement of trucks with WFP commodities
  • Inform supervisor on major accidents or incidents jeopardizing the operations
  • Maintaing proper filing systems and archiveing of documents so that they may be retrieved promptly and efficiently when required.
  • Take part in un-stuffing operations by partners while ensuring that quantities match with data from Douala Port Arrival
  • Prepare a loading plan in collaboration with partners
  • Carry out daily check of  warehouse stocks
  • Ensure that workable fire extinguishers are found in warehouses
  • Perform monthly warehouse physical count/inventory of food and non-food items and coordinate these activities in other distribution points not depending on Ngaoundere Sub-Office.
  • When required to do so by the organization, travel occasionally within the area of operations, especially to perform physical inventories in established WFP warehouses(EDPs).
  • Timely and accurately report on the quality/quantity of stored commodities
  • Immediately report on any commodity loss discovered further to inventories
  • Report on and, in consultation with the direct supervisor, take appropriate action for the disposal in COMPAS of spoiled commodities in accordance with WFP procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications and Experience

Education: secondary school education, preferably University degree supplemented technical courses/experience in a field related to Logistics/transport activities

Working experience: at least 3 years of professionnal experience; including a minimum of 2 years in the field of logistics, transport, accounting, operations or any other related field.

Other qualifications:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications, particularly MS-Office(Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and integrated management systems (SAP & Oracle)
  • Ability to work accurately under time constraints and pressure.
  • Good knowledge of humanitarian activities and the UN system
