The United States Peace Corps Cameroon is recruiting a Safety and Security Manager (SSM) to be based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The role of the Safety and Security Manager (SSM) is to support security-related functions (i.e. site inspection and selection, Volunteer site visits, emergency planning, incident response, etc.) that are critical to post operations and Volunteer support.

The incumbent will work in a fast-paced office and must have a demonstrated record as a self-starter able to complete numerous tasks simultaneously and with minimum supervision. The SSM position requires a great degree of energy, flexibility and creativity and includes travel to remote locations within Cameroon. The position is a full-time Personal Services Contractor position with an initial three month probationary period beginning on/about March 4, 2018.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and Verifies Safety and Security Policy Implementation
  • Coordinates Safety and Security Training
  • Supports Home-Stays and Site Identification
  • Manages Incident Reporting and Response
  • Advises on Safety and Security Policy and Program
  • Prepares for and Responds to Emergencies
  • Acts as Safety and Security Liaison
  • Analyzes Crime Trends
  • Shares Safety and Security Information
  • Develops Resources and Policy

Required Qualifications

Applicant must be a Cameroonian citizen or have authorization to work in Cameroon, must not have been employed in intelligence-related activities, and must submit application that clearly documents how s/he meets each of the following qualifications:

The SSM must at a minimum possess the following skills and abilities to effectively carry out the duties of the position:

  • Experience with safety and security programs of Peace Corps

OR

  • Experience with safety and security programs of similar NGO/development organizations

OR

  • Relevant professional security or law enforcement experience

AND

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other organizations, including local law enforcement, criminal justice, emergency management and other NGO/development agencies;
  • Ability to analyze crime trends and other risks and propose mitigation strategies;
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated English proficiency, both written and oral;
  • Demonstrated local language fluency;
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite, and other basic computer knowledge;
  • Ability to conduct training and give presentations, in both English and a local language
  • A high school diploma (or local equivalent); college degree preferred
  • A valid Cameroon driver's license.

The incumbent will be hired at a competitive salary with an initial three month probationary basis with the possibility of being contracted full-time at the end of the probationary period. Only candidates who meet the above qualifications will be considered.
