POSITION: Part-Time Technical Trainers for Science (Education Program)

OPENING DATE: January 12, 2015

CLOSING DATE: January 23, 2015

The United States Peace Corps Cameroon is recruiting Part-Time Science Technical Trainers for its community-Based Pre-Service Training (PST), in Ebolowa, Cameroon. The selected Candidates will have to reside in Ebolowa, where Peace Corps Training takes place. The position requires a great degree of energy, flexibility and creativity.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare technical training for in-coming volunteers, future teachers of the sciences (biology, math, physics, chemistry) in Cameroonian secondary schools.
  • Conduct Pre-training Research to prepare task analyses, identify resources, and clarify training goals with Peace Corps staff
  • Deliver technical training, including: practical instructions; classroom activities; facilitation of field exercises; supervision of Trainee Directed Activities (TDAs); assistance to Trainees in preparation of projects; individual support to Trainees
  • Assess Trainee progress(newer volunteers are called trainees until they swear-in after training)
  • Participate, as needed, in design and delivery of follow up Volunteer in-service trainings (ISTs )
  • Provide weekly and end of training reports
  • Collaborate with other technical and language trainers and model school principal and vice to implement and evaluate training
  • Accountability to the Director of Programming and Training

Required Qualifications:

  • A DIPES II or Masters in Science (Math, Physics, Biology or Chemistry)
  • Has at least 5 years’ teaching experience in Anglophone or Bilingual Schools and teaching Anglophone students
  • Experience in ordinary and advanced level examinations
  • Experience in managing computer labs
  • Excellent oral communication skills in English
  • Experience working in cross-cultural settings, sensitivity and familiarity with diversity of American and Cameroonian cultures
