The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the largest independent conservation organizations in the world. WWF is an international NGO committed to environmental protection.  The  global conservation  organization,  active  in  almost  100  countries,  has  been  working  in  the  Congo  Basin  in Central Africa for more than 20 years. Our mission is to stop the environmental degradation in the world and build a future where humans live in harmony with nature.

 WWF Cameroon is looking for a Project Assistant in order to ensure the Campo Ma’an component of the Pan African Programme Ecological influences on Culture in Chimpanzees and Hominoids, is developed and implemented, following the highest standards, in line with the Max Planck Institute Research Proposal and the Memorandum of Understanding between WWF and Max Planck Institute.

Major Functions and responsibilities

I. Major Functions

Ensure the execution of programme activities as determined by the Research Proposal and Max Planck Institute project staff. Translate bio-monitoring data into management decisions. Capacity building and individual strengthening of WWF & MINFOF staffs.

II. Major Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct the collection of systematic ecological, social, demographic and behavioural data on chimpanzee populations in Campo Ma’an National Park, through:

  • Surveys
  • Camera trapping
  • Organic sample collection

Capacity building

  • Capacity building and training of local staff is key to the long-term success of chimpanzee conservation. National park staff and hired local assistants will gain experience and knowledge of various specialised data collection methodologies;

Support to Campo-Ma\'an national Park management 

  • Work with MINFOF Conservator and MINFOF to ensure the optimum use of bio-monitoring data in conservation planning within the Campo-Ma\'an national Park;

Other duties

  • Carry out other activities and tasks as requested by the Programme Coordinator.

What you need:

Required Qualifications 

  • An advanced degree in Wildlife Management, Environmental Sciences, Biology or similar. 
  • At least 2 years of experience in monitoring great apes in the wild.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Good knowledge of monitoring and research tools for great apes
  • Good knowledge of Protected Area Management Issues in Cameroon
  • Experience in leading field research teams in tropical forests
  • Adhere to WWF’s values: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
